The photograph shows migrant daily wage labour walking through a deserted underpass on their way out of Delhi.
We gave two migrants, who had undertaken the reverse journey, a lift across town to their home (from Anand Vihar Bus stand to Mahavir Enclave, Dwarka) . The most memorable part of their 500 + km walk, wherein they got a lift in a truck for a part of it, was the availability of food and water in every village along their walk from Haldwani to Delhi - irrespective of its religious makeup, Hindu/ Muslim /Sikh. They said "we may have been tired, but we were never short of food."
