Dust
Description
Nini Lungalang is an important voice in Naga poetry. She taught English and classical music in Northfield School, Kohima, Nagaland. In the poem Dust, she voices the experiences of numerous Naga brothers and sisters who have lost their lives.
In this poem, the gloating and the staring sun witnesses a young man being gunned down in the field and dying in the dust. This is how a sister witnesses the assertion, the rebellion as the ink crusts in her pen. This is the skewed participation of a simple Naga woman who witnesses life being drained of its sap as she finds young people lying in “a scarlet little shower”.
