"Words from Jawadhu Hills" Launch at LFS 2025 Festival, Pondicherry
HAB participated in the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP)'s annual Local Food Systems (LFS) Festival, where HAB Academic Director Aarti Kawlra, Hélène Guétat-Bernard (ENSFEA, Toulouse), and Delphine Thivet (IFP) presented the work they have done in conversation with local stakeholders in the Jawadhu Hills millet farming community of South India. IFP Director Renaud Colson and IIAS Director Philippe Peycam later released the co-produced publication, Words from Jawadhu Hills.
Festival Background (Local Food Systems Festival 2025)
A Local Food System is a nexus linking different components, from production to consumption, from farmers to consumers “from farm to fork”, to use the expression in Western countries, or “from farm to fingers”, as it is said in India. A Local Food System also corresponds to a network of stakeholders, often in cooperation, sometimes in conflict, who act within the marketing chain, or within the same area, or at different scales from the field to the State.
The 7th edition of the Local Food Systems Festival sought to deal with all of the elements of an LFS holistically by meeting with key stakeholders, from women entrepreneurs to fishermen, and exploring areas such as Pondicherry, Madurai and the Jawadhu Hills.
