University of Ghana

The University of Ghana, founded in 1948 to provide and promote education, learning and research, is committed to participate in the next phase of HaB as it transits from experimentations to institutionalization. The university’s vision is to become world class research-intensive over the next decade, and to create an enabling environment that makes the university progressively relevant to national and global development.

The University of Ghana shares and subscribes to HaB’s initiative to develop an alternative pedagogical framework, and is committed to working towards their realization within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation signed between the University and the International Institute for Asian Studies on June 19, 2017.

We are committed to explore the theoretical foundations and implications of community-engaged learning, and will continue to provide a conducive and institutional space, through the Institute of African Studies and the Office for Research, Innovation and Development (ORID), to expedite the HaB 2.0 Program within the university and in relation to partners of the consortium, for the next five years. We also seek accreditation for a PhD Course, Africa in Global Studies, as well as mobilize a group of researchers here to guarantee proficient and timely delivery.

Further, in regard to educational activities, and long-term capacity developments to be conducted under HaB 2.0 and its network, the Institute of African Studies, as it did during HaB 1.0, will continue to mobilize to sustain a trans-regional consortium of scholars, educators, and institutions committed to humanistically-grounded educational praxis. We will plan methodological and pedagogical experiments in partnership with universities in the HaB consortium.
