Enrico Joaquin Lapuz
Hello! I am Enrico Joaquin "Joaquin" Lapuz, the Web Content Coordinator for Humanities Across Borders. I write and review content submitted to the HAB website and help the rest of the team facilitate communication between IIAS and the HAB partners.
Before moving to the Netherlands, I studied history in the Philippines. I continued that into my graduate studies, completing my Masters in Colonial & Global History at Leiden University.
What interests me about HAB is its focus on stories as research, and how it can help students connect with what they are learning about. My work revolves around reexamining Indigenous Filipino photographs and looking at how they actively connect with the world around them, rather than treating them as passive objects on display. There is a human element to HAB's approach that I think can be incorporated into how we view and discuss the Humanities & Social Sciences. It is a reminder of how stories add nuance and complexity in a way traditional academic narratives cannot, but also how they draw parallels with different cultures and peoples, creating new relationships in the process.
