Kumar Unnayan

Kumar Unnayan works as a Senior Research Assistant at Centre for Community Knowledge, Ambedkar University Delhi. With marks inverse to his interest in Physics, he shifted towards receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Literature from the University of Delhi. The deflection continued in the form of a Master’s in Literature at Ambedkar University Delhi, where he submitted a thesis on renderings of a folk legend of Garhwal Himalayas. The work was an attempt at documenting, translating and reflecting on multiple narratives of a single tale within one village. As a native speaker of Garhwali and with Hindi and English as the two languages of his formal education, he has a keen interest in how politics of translations shape our understanding of concepts and identities.

He has been a part of independent theatre productions and worked previously as an Archival Researcher and Project Coordinator. In addition to coping with variety of transcriptions, he works as a freelance Translator (Garhwali-Hindi-English) and Editor (Hindi) and is currently a Consultant with the publishing division of the non-profit organization Katha. At HaB, he looks forward to understand the processes that link community based narratives to classroom learning and teaching.
