French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP)
The French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP), UMIFRE 21 CNRS-MEAE, is a research institution under the joint supervision of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). It is the largest of the 26 research centres under these umbrellas. It is also part of the Research Unit USR 3330 “Savoirs et Mondes Indiens” of the CNRS, along with the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH) in New Delhi.
HAB first collaborated with IFP in 2022, co-organising with the Madras Institute for Development Studies, Chennai (MIDS) a workshop titled Youth Anxieties and Aspirations, addressing intersectional inequalities and spaces of conflict, negotiation, and resistance experienced by young Indians as they navigate adulthood.
Since January 2023, IFP has been a member of the HAB consortium, collaborating and organising events with the network on different projects to bring into dialogue scholars, administrators, and practitioners in collaborative knowledge exchange. One such example was an organised writing workshop titled Writing without Fear, which provided participants the opportunity to develop their own writing practice through exercises in creative non-fiction. Other workshops conducted include the 2024 Youth Cartographies methodologies workshop alongside the Youth on the Move (YOTM) project, which brought together participants who shared their experiences of engagement with youth in different socio-ecological and political contexts, whilst focusing on the variety of experimental techniques used with a special emphasis on cartography and embodied methodologies.
In the realm of publications, IFP is currently working with HAB on an edited volume for the Humanities Across Borders: A Methodologies Book Series on the question of knowhow, with a paper panel being conducted in Surabaya for ICAS 13. In addition, an HAB wordbook is currently in progress, looking at the voices and language of millet farmers in Jawadhu Hills, India.
