A procession of Tazias and street performers greet you while walking through the main market road, in Mehrauli, on the day of Muharram. The procession is organized by Auliya Masjid and Bakhtiyar Kaki Dargah situated in the neighbourhood.

However, Muharram is not the only festival celebrated with such rigor in Mehrauli. Given that the neighbourhood is made up of diverse ethnic and religious communities, one finds festivals from Dussehra to Vamiliki Jayanti being celebrated with equal enthusiasm. Each community takes out a procession on the day of the festival as a way of celebrating their identity which is evident in the following quote.
